Toshiba Qosmio GENERAL IMPRESSION
GENERAL IMPRESSIONAll I can say is wow! This is a beautiful laptop. It's a basic black with a ruby red trim around the outside edge of the bottom part. The word "Qosmio" light up on the back of the screen when the laptop is turned on.
I have never owned a Toshiba laptop before. I needed a new one to do video editing and selected this one over a similar ASUS model which was an inch and a half deeper (would no longer fit in my bag) and was two pounds heavier. This has the same footprint as my old Dell Studio 1737 and fits in my bag perfectly.
The keys are backlit with soft red light which will go out after a short period of inactivity to save battery. As soon as you press a key it will re-light. The keyboard keys have a nice feel to them and are great to type on. My only complaint with the keyboard is the up arrow key is too small and close to the right shift key. Not a big deal.
It boots extremely fast. I counted 10 seconds from pushing the power button to the logon screen. Once I have entered my password it's another 5 seconds for the desktop to come up.
There are four USB 3.0 ports. The two on the right side are Sleep and Charge ports. These allow you to charge USB devices even when your PC is turned off. Nice. It also has an HDMI output port.
The touchpad has a small icon in the upper left corner which allows you to disable the touchpad when you have a mouse plugged in. Just hold your finger about an inch above the icon and tap it. It will light when the pad is disabled. On my old laptops I had to go into the mouse settings to do this.
The power transformer is very large. I had read this in other reviews of Toshiba laptops but it will fit fine in my laptop bag and wasn't a show stopper.
